My Favorite Kentucky Place #2 is Pleasant Hill: Shakertown

Anyone who has been to Shakertown at Pleasant Hill will tell you the same thing that there is something very special about it, different in a subtle way from any other place they have been.  Pleasant Hill became my favorite Kentucky place #2 while I was a student at WKU and sang with the Western Shaker Singers.  We were a group of around 16 singers led by Ruth Morriss who was the group’s leader, and we would spend weekends there doing musical shows to the guests reenacting a Shaker Worship service with the music and dances of the Shakers in the traditional costumes.

My favorite Kentucky place is heaven on earth.

The peace you find here at Shakertown always makes you want to come back for more.  Especially if you spend the night. You go back into time spending the night in the beautiful buildings and rooms updated with modern conveniences while maintaining the original charm. My favorite Kentucky place #2 has great food and comfortable chairs to sit in, not to mention beds to sleep in.  It seems unbelievable that these Shakers could have built and made such beautiful things in a time without any of the modern technologies we have today.  Yet, they stand as solid today as the day they were built.

Return to yesterday to my favorite Kentucky place

My favorite Kentucky place is full of beauty, natural and manmade.  It is a place of rest, peace and above all sanity.   I highly recommend it…just go!

Writing about it is fun as well…take a look as to why!
