Personal Power Is Available To Everyone

The idea of individual freedom during this July 4th week, has gotten me to think about the discussion surrounding the strong versus the weak, the rich versus the poor or the haves and the have nots.  It seems that human history is basically the story of these conflicts.  The survival of the fittest and the use of power to oppress people, go to war and to win wars, whether they be in the political arena or the battlefield.  The individual often feels like a refugee of these conflicts and don’t have any feeling of personal power against these forces. But the whole concept of personal power lies not in conflict with outside influences, it lies within one’s own realm of influence.  No one can give you personal power nor can anyone take it away. Personal power is available to everyone.

Developing Personal Power For Yourself

One of Anthony Robbins’ CD courses is named ”Personal Power”.  It is an excellent program and highly recommendable. He describes personal power as ”the ability to act”. If you can’t act then you have no power to affect anything in your life.  Certainly it can be used to take action in any area of life one chooses.  However, I am not here to discuss achievement in any area, I am here to say that it is natural that living organisms become as strong, healthy and as powerful as they can, not for any other reason but to be a strong individual.

Personal Power Is The Primary Responsibility Of The Individual

One of the biggest pitfalls in life is comparison.  It is common for people to compare themselves with others and their relationship to society. The main comparison one makes, whether consciously or not, is a person’s view of their status in life.  This constant measuring to outside standards is the most limiting activity one can do.

People automatically collect themselves in groups, and these groups are usually people of equivalent perceptions of station in society.  It is natural, because they have a lot to talk about from common experience. They can all compare notes at the same level and talk about life with common points of view, because they are all sitting in the same boat. People like staying in the boat they are in, because their shipmates all speak the same language.  This group feeling however, levels out everyone’s expectations of the individual, and they develop their personal power the same way and that is to conform to that group.  If you try to become more or slip a little and become less than the norm of that group then you will be treated with disdain.

Personal power is not a social matter.  It is a personal matter.  The only goal for it suggested here is simply to become the strongest individual possible, on one’s own standard.  Physical strength should be developed simply for the purpose of being strong.  Doing it to look good, to be sexy or to be the strongest are all superficial goals and while having merit shouldn’t be the reason to do it. The reason to do it is that life is easier when one is stronger, all of life’s weights are lifted easier if you are strong.  Be strong to be strong in yourself, that is the best reason of all.

Every other pursuit of personal power, whether it be mental, spiritual, artistic, relationships and financial if simply done with the purpose of being strong within yourself  is the highest purpose you can pursue and should also be seen as the primary responsibility of the individual in all of society.  There is too much weakness in the world because people see themselves as weak, and it is not true.  While it may be true that some are weak by poor health or infirmity, the vast majority of people blame their weakness on the overbearing power of society, when really their lack of personal power is self inflicted.

Working to become strong in every way is our primary ”job” in life. One way is to be able to create your own income and a way to do that is through blogging.  Take a look at this and see if you can turn your thoughts and knowledge into income.  Be as strong as you can be and don’t ever stop getting stronger. Nobody can do your push-ups for you, that you have to do for yourself.
