7 Incredibly Effective Ways to Start Your Day

Are you always trying to figure out the best way to start your day?  Do these 7 simple things everyday, first thing in the morning and feel great!

I usually have a hard time getting going in the morning and I have had trouble getting my fitness off to a good start and then I asked myself the question…

…What can I do every day that is simple and will get me fabulous results?

To me fabulous results mean: 1. It makes you feel good instantly. 2. It gets you results over time.

Here they are:

  1. Go to the window, out on the porch, or balcony, and exhale the stale air, and inhale fresh air by breathing deeply.
  2. The ”Boredom to Brilliance” Seagull exercise.  30 Seconds – Minute
  3. 5 x the Sun Salutation. 5 minutes tops.
  4. Drink one glass of water and a second glass of water with a green drink powder or wheat grass powder.
  5. Light a candle and do this 5 minute meditation.
  6. Repeat the Seagull exercise.
  7. Make tasty and healthy breakfast!

 1. Breathing Deeply

When I was at a summer study program in Bregenz, Austria back in the day, my friends and I roomed with an older Austria ”Hausfrau” who did several things regularly everyday that I found amazing.

She always went to the baker and got fresh ”brötchen” which were crisp and absolutely delicious, served it with either coffee or tea and real butter and different sorts of cheese, breakfast meats and of course various sorts of jam!  Her radio was always on and playing the old traditional Austrian Volksmusik and it was just cheery and bright in there.

Well, she would go over to the window and breath out with force and then inhale through her nose, and repeat 10 times!  She said it made her feel great and got rid of all of the stale air in the lungs. Try it!

2. The Seagull Exercise.

The Seagull Exercise is something I came up with to unify the body, mind and spirit into one compact exercise.  To do this exercise you use your mind to create a sort of imaginary video for yourself, turning your exercise into a sort of flight simulator, giving you the same experience that a seagull has when they do their flying acrobatics at the beach. When you are soaring above the waves you tap into your spiritual strength by creating a feeling of freedom in your heart. The physical part is simply there to get your blood flowing and to expand your body in an expressive and freeing way. Check out this video for a demonstration!

3.  The Sun Salutation

The Sun Salutation is a yoga exercise which you can use everyday.  It is a tried and true way to get your body flexible and strengthened! Check out this video for a description!  (Keep in mind when watching the video that the model is a well trained yogi, do not do the movements this fast, take your time and simply do the best you can. It is more important that you do them at all than it is that you do them ”right”.  Just, move slowly, make sure you use your stomach and core muscles all of the time in order to prevent injury and make you more flexible.)

4.  Hydrate

I got this tidbit from Tony Robbins and his ”alkalize and energize” philosophy in his CD set ”Get the Edge.”  I can attest to the value of using green drink or wheat grass powder as a great way to get the acids out of your body and it also works wonders for your digestion. Drinking water is the single most important health diet thing you can dedicate yourself to.

5.   The Traveling Exercise

This 5 minute meditation is one of the most relaxing and empowering exercises you can do. Check it out here! I can think of no better way to spend 5 minutes than to take this time for yourself not only in the morning, but at different moments throughout the day, to increase your focus and to rid yourself of the fight or flight reactions inside your body. I got this exercise from the book ”Strong and Fearless” by Dr. Phil Neuernberger.

6.   Repeat the Seagull Exercise

Doing this exercise once is great. Doing the Sun Salutation is also awesome…but add this repeated Seagull exercise after doing the Traveling Exercise will really empower your day!

7.   Make your favorite breakfast!

Getting your day off to a good start should include a good and satisfying breakfast. It is not good to start the day in a state of dissatisfaction. Yes, it is great to eat healthy, but it is also important to fill your needs. Just know that a lot of sugar can make you crash or too much coffee may give you jitters or cause acid reflux during the day. If you go off into the day ”hungry” you are starting behind.

So, there are the 7 great ways to start your day! Go for it!
