When I was writing the book “Boredom to Brilliance” I was focusing on the idea to develop artistic talents to find my life’s work. But, today I am focusing on how making my environment beautiful is a great place to start.
What is my “environment”?
An environment is that place where you spend time. In teaching geography it is wise to teach it from where you are out to the rest of the world. This way you know where you are and how you are positioned in the world.
My personal environment is the same. I work from the middle to the outside. When working on this I find that the geography of my life’s environment is at different levels from the inside out.
Level 1: Mental Environment
Level 2: Physical Body
Level 3: My Clothing
Level 4: My Home Inside
Level 5: My Home Exterior
Level 6: My Neighborhood
Level 7: My People
Level 8: My City, State, Country
Level 9: My Travels and Influences
It is a tall order to get all of that in great condition and to live a life where you “feel” good at home, with yourself and with others.
It is common to ask yourself “What do I ‘WANT’? But really, it is difficult to articulate what you want for yourself and your world. But, it is pretty easy to know what you don’t want. The idea is that by eliminating the things I don’t want from my life I will be left with what I do want!
Each of the above requires a certain amount of work and most of all maintenance on a consistent basis. The unrelenting fact of the matter is that when you clean off the dining table and it sits in the dining room for a while it won’t stay clean. Dust gathers on it and then you have to clean it before you eat again. This is a fact of life. What you don’t maintain deteriorates and therefore the environment I live in requires constant maintenance at all levels. It never stops and it takes diligence and organization to keep up with it.
To have a beautiful life means to be surrounded by beauty.
