Hilltopper Football 2013: The Petrino Effect

Hilltopper Football 2013 is going to be an exciting spectacle to watch due to the well known Petrino Effect.  His offensive prowess is second to none on the current college football scene and he is not playing with an empty hand at his new home of Western Kentucky University.  Even if there are a couple of question marks, most notably at the coveted quarterback position in a Petrino offense, you have to figure that he will have the right guy calling the plays for the Tops.  With a stable of serious heat at running back, full back and proven talent at tight end, Petrino will be able to wheel and deal with a full deck of cards.  Even if the receiver corps may not be what one would deem as dangerous, the Topper veterans catch the ball well and have had success under the West Coast ala Taggart offense.  Add to that mix some speed and size coming in and Petrino will be close to having his cake and eating it too.

Hilltopper Football 2013 And The End Of Sun Belt Conference Play.

Hilltopper Football 2013 edition is a favorite among some national publications to win the Sun Belt conference.  It has been close the past two years.  In fact, WKU would have won the title two years ago if not for a close couple of calls at the end of the Arkansas State game. Last year a converted two point attempt by La-Monroe put the Toppers in a bind to win the conference.  Now, with the exit of Florida International, Florida Atlantic and North Texas and MTSU, WKU again has an excellent chance to win the conference in their final curtain call. Admittedly the three teams to beat will be Arkansas State, La. Lafayette and La. Monroe. It should be a good conference race.

Hilltopper Football 2013: Filling the Seats

Hilltopper Football 2013: The Petrino Effect should have a positive effect on ticket sales at the Houchens_L.T. Smith Stadium, Jimmy Feix Field with the Jack and Jackie Harbaugh Clubhouse! They are running out of things to name!  So, it is time to expand that capacity for the crowds that are sure to emerge after WKU puts some hurt on Kentucky and Tennessee. Not saying the Tops win both, but it is certainly not outside the realm of possibility.  Suffice it to say, that a Petrino led offense is likely to make most any opposing coach sweat a bit.

Defensively Petrino has stated he likes the secondary, but that the D-Line will have to prove itself soon.  With a quick strike offense, the defense will be under more pressure than the Taggart defenses, simply due to the fact that the West Coast style of play, with run, run, run the star RB and an occasional flip to the Tight Ends and shots down field soaked up clock like Big Red Charmin paper towels. (Marketing Idea?)

All in all, the true Topper fan has got to feel excited about this coming season, and hopefully even some of the locals who usually would rather watch from a bar stool will park their rears on an aluminum bleacher and yell ”T O P S Tops, Tops Tops! ”  Also, it would be a plus if fans would make it into the stadium before the game begins instead of hanging out at tailgating till the end of the first quarter.

So, the first game is on August 31 in Nashville and so it will have a much different atmosphere than the event on Thursday night two years ago.  Looking forward to being there and to the new edition of the Hilltopper Football 2013 with the Petrino effect.
